Harnessing cyanobacteria for bioplastic production and a sustainable future: New videos explain

The latest videos in our #PROMICONexplained series on our YouTube Channel look at the top-down approach used by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya to develop and optimise natural photosynthetic microbiomes for producing valuable compounds like bioplastics, pigments, and sugars.

By creating specific lab conditions, the microbiomes were enriched with cyanobacteria. These microscopic powerhouses perform photosynthesis, using CO₂ and sunlight to grow. They produce high-value compounds, making them crucial contributors to the bioeconomy.
