Last week, PROMICON partners from Universitat Politecnica de Catalonia (UPC) attended the 1st International Conference on Novel Photorefineries for Resource Recovery - PHOTOREFINERIES 2024 in Valladolid, Spain. The conference, which marks the first event under the European COST Action PURPLEGAIN, provided a platform for sharing cutting-edge research on using solar-powered chemical and biological catalysts to convert waste streams into valuable products, contributing to sustainability and the circular economy.
The UPC participants – Eva Gonzalez, Marta Bellver, Estel Rueda, and Beatriz Altamira – joined scientists, engineers, and practitioners from around the world to discuss the latest advancements in photocatalysis and microbial photosynthesis for resource recovery. They presented their findings related to PROMICON on monitoring bioplastic production, as well as a poster on their latest paper – Challenges, progress, and future perspectives for cyanobacterial polyhydroxyalkanoate production.
