A feature in CORDIS spotlights PROMICON’s work in advancing the EU’s bioeconomy strategy. CORDIS, the European Commission's primary public platform for providing comprehensive information about EU research and development projects, serves as a vital resource for policymakers, researchers, experts, practitioners, and the general public across Europe, offering key insights into developments in research and innovation. Building on PROMICON’s press release published in EurekAlert! and Alpha Galileo, the CORDIS feature is available in six languages: English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, and Polish.

PROMICON’s first policy brief supports the 2018 EU Bioeconomy Strategy's goal of creating a sustainable, circular, and low-emissions economy. It offers four policy recommendations leveraging microbiome analysis and synthetic microbial consortia technologies to propel the European bioeconomy forward:

  1. Academic and research Support: Encourage research and development focused on microbiome analysis and modelling technologies.

  2. Industry Investment: Urge agricultural, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical companies to invest in synthetic microbial consortia for producing target metabolites.

  3. Regulatory Frameworks: Promote regulatory frameworks supporting synthetic biology in industrial applications, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

  4. Circular Economy Principles: Advocate for circular economy principles within the bioeconomy sector, emphasising waste reduction and resource efficiency.

CORDIS further highlights PROMICON’s Policy Corner, which serves as a hub where stakeholders can access all policy briefs, share ideas, ask questions, and provide feedback to shape future policy recommendations.

Finally, PROMICON’s social media campaign #WomenInScience is also featured in CORDIS’ press release, in recognition of the vital role women scientists play in creating a sustainable bioeconomy. The campaign highlights the experiences of women in the PROMICON project, showcasing their challenges and achievements, and providing inspiration and insight into careers in science.

CORDIS's recognition of PROMICON underscores the project's significance in promoting sustainable bio-based practices, enhancing the bioeconomy, and encouraging a collaborative approach to addressing environmental challenges.
