PROMICON researcher Marta Catalão (NOVA.ID) shared key findings during the 14th European Symposium on Biochemical Engineering Sciences (ESBES 2024) held in Copenhagen, Denmark on 21 – 23 October. The symposium brought together a broad spectrum of academics, consultants, and industry representatives to discuss “Biochemical engineering for the sustainable processes of the future.”
Catalão’s presentation, titled “Selection and characterization of microbiomes under the same ecological stress,” delved into the adaptability of microbiomes for producing polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), a biodegradable plastic. “I discussed the potential of different microbiomes to evolve into cultures capable of producing PHA,” she shared, highlighting PROMICON’s contributions to sustainable biochemical engineering.
PROMICON’s participation at ESBES 2024 exemplifies the project’s role in pioneering, eco-friendly solutions within the biochemical engineering field.
