Biotechnology and its application in biomanufacturing can address numerous societal and environmental challenges, such as climate change mitigation, sustainable resource use, ecosystem restoration, food security, and human health. In March, the European Commission proposed targeted actions to boost biotechnology and biomanufacturing in the EU, including, amongst others, research and innovation studies, market demand stimulation, and a review of the Bioeconomy Strategy.
To support the transition to a circular bioeconomy and improve the use of microbial communities in biotechnological processes, PROMICON has issued its second policy brief. It presents a novel online automated flow cytometry procedure which can provide a rapid and reliable means for the monitoring of bacterial communities.
