PROMICON Women in Science presents: Blanca Antizar

PROMICON’s new social media campaign #WomenInScience aims to portray the excitement and the difficulties that come with being a female scientist, shedding more light on this career path. Each week, we will tell the stories of the women behind PROMICON and this week we are presenting you Blanca Antizar from Isle Utilities.

What initially sparked your interest in science?  

Curiosity ignited my passion for science, fuelled by the thrill of unraveling nature’s mysteries.

What are some common misconceptions about being a female scientist that you've encountered in your career?

In the water sector, I have proven that it is not just a ‘men’s world.’ With the right guidance and support, incredible women are flourishing here, and together, we’re inspiring the next wave of scientists.

How do you feel about the representation of women in PROMICON?

At PROMICON, diversity is not just a buzzword; it is our secret ingredient for innovation. We blend gender, nationalities, and age to create a vibrant tapestry of ideas.

What actions would you recommend to EU policymakers to enhance gender equality in European-funded projects?

EU policymakers can pave the way by creating clear roadmaps for diversity, tracking progress through KPIs, and sharing results widely. Let’s turn diversity into our innovation superpower!

Which female scientist do you look up to the most and why?  

There are a lot of great female scientists such as Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin, Rachel Carson and Margarita Salas, these women faced immense challenges due to societal norms and barriers. By celebrating their achievements, we honor their resilience and pave the way for future generations of women in science.

Beyond the famous names, countless hidden stars sparkle in the scientific sky. Let’s amplify their voices, creating new opportunities for future generations.

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in science nowadays?

Follow your passion with determination. Seek out role models, but if you do not find them, blaze your own trail and enjoy every step of the journey!

Do not fear mistakes; they are like puzzle pieces that build your wisdom. Rejections? They are your secret recipe for resilience!
